Realignment
by Karen Suriano
the spying eyes of sunrise find
me stumbling bumbling to the kitchen blind
coherent thought is undermined
sleep slugs, grey matter intertwined
lurch on undaunted, the freezer is mined
of roasted nirvana for electric grind
scoop and measure the unrefined
then water, heat and bean combined
hiss and gurgleshout most unkind
but aroma kisses with peace of mind
before first sip, much was maligned
but after, my outlook is realigned

Caffeine by Leland Harlan
The regenerative action of my eyes
beheld the orange-tinted skies;
my cup of coffee I did gulp,
imploring the retort,
that certainly sky and coffee spoke
before I awoke.
As I sipped, the sun's swirled-rays
glittered phosphors off the wings of
blackbirds.
I yawn and gulp coffee.
The sun is now a blinding ball-of-fire,
and, it seems, that the birds are
black darts that hurl themselves into
the void.
"Little birds, you tempt the sky eagerly,
for even at this moment
the sun commands chariots
and the invisible wind whittles pyramids."
Suddenly...I spot a UFO and blink:
"Come back little birds and bring my
sunglasses...don't you know that it
isn't safe out there?"
